Barcode Mixology is driven by the idea that cocktails are meant to be something more than vodka hidden behind fruit juices and syrup. We believe in the synergy of flavours, quality ingredients combined using classic principles to create something greater than the sum of its parts. To us it is as much about opening people’s minds to what real drinks can be, as simply producing what is popular.
Ryan Duvenage , Gareth Wainwright and Tim Townsend head our mixology division. Ryan is current SA Classic Cocktail Champion (2009/2010) and will represent South Africa at the IBA World Cocktail Competition in Singapore in October 2010. In the 2009 round of the contest he ranked 7th in the world in Berlin, the best ever performance by a South African.
Ryan was also recently selected for participation in the G’Vine gin connoisseurs program to be held in France. Gareth Wainwright has ten years’ experience in cocktail design for large scale hospitality, lifestyle media and cocktail bars. Barcode Director Tim Townsend has extensive local and international mixology experience (3 time SA Classic Cocktail Champion and ranked 9th in the world in Helsinki in 2005).
Cocktails have an entire culture of their own – when designed thoughtfully and prepared correctly they can define an event.
